Hi Faruk, Thank you for also including the log. There are quite a few settings in the gauge that still require scaling. The design capacity and design energy are scaled by 4, however, many other mA and mW parameters when scaling by the factor of 4 have been multiplied by 4 instead of divided by 4. For example: "Gas Gauging","Current Thresholds","Dsg Current Threshold","187","mAmp" (default: 60) "Gas Gauging","Current Thresholds","Chg Current Threshold","175","mAmp" (default: 75) "Gas Gauging","Current Thresholds","Quit Current","150","mAmp" (default: 40) Please divide the default value by 4 and round up to the nearest whole number. These values should instead be: "Gas Gauging","Current Thresholds","Dsg Current Threshold","15","mAmp" "Gas Gauging","Current Thresholds","Chg Current Threshold","19","mAmp" "Gas Gauging","Current Thresholds","Quit Current","10","mAmp" Please apply this to all mA and mW/cW values in the device. Sincerely, Bryan Kahler

Hello Bryan, Thanks for your input. Regardless of chemistry, the original question was relating to inadvertent charging. The Maxim app note was given as a reference. So, does the bq34z100-G1 have the same charging path as the Maxim Chip if the potential between B+ and Clock or Data is sufficient? Is this same challenge existent in say, the bq40z50 ? Thanks, Larry

Hyobin, the BQstudio has external pullups on the black box. the I2C pullup jumper pulls the I2C pin to VSYS. So you were seeing the VSYS pulled up to voltage of the box. thanks, gautham

Hello, Please make sure you're using the BQ24079 . There are other devices in the product family that have Vo(REG) = 4.4V. It is possible that there has been a mix-up.

hi Poh, from the battery only mode, you can pull upto 850mA (BATOCP) limit. When VIN is present it can be ILIM current setting + BATOCP limit. I see where the confusion is. I will fix the datasheet to clarify better. regards, gautham

Austin, Please make sure the I2C is pulled up to VSYS. Are you doing your tests on a different board than the EVM? Please confirm. thanks, gautham

Alex. Is the gauge put into shut down? The gauge is never to be shut down otherwise you are provide room for error introduction given you could wake in the flat region of the cell chem id. The gauge reports 0 based on what the cell voltage that was measured and current in "average I last run that was used for simulation. if you chem id is bad and then you are in the flat region and then your average I last run is high, chances of the gauge reporting 0% is greater. thanks Onyx

Part Number: BQ21040 Hi, Datasheet on p.22 describes MLP package with thermal pad, which is main GND connection. But p.29,30 – package and land pattern drawings do not show any thermal pad. Also I do not see any package options online with thermal pad, it’s just plain SOT23-6 package. Can you provide some insight into this? Thanks, Chuchen

Matt - I attempted uploading the gg.csv file you prepared, from Data Memory view in bqStudio . The local updates get reflected in the bqStudio SW but when I did Write All, bqStudio just seems to do a Read All instead, and now it looks like the 34110 has done a full data reset because neither of our profile values are coming up from the chip. What's there looks similar to where I started with this, out of the box. I am probably missing something simple, please advise ... thanks. -pete

Hi Ryan, The Ra table on your device is corrupt. Please reprogram the device and configure the fields as described in the device datasheet. Also take care to scale the other parameters identified in table 15 of the datasheet (pg. 31). Are there other devices on your I2C bus? If so, please remove the extra devices from the i2c bus to prevent bus contention. Is the board custom? If so, and the errors continue to persist, please include the schematic. Sincerely, Bryan Kahler

Hi Peter, Sorry to hear about the troubles. I don't think it's possible for the data flash values to reset. One thing that might be preventing the data flash from being written is the 'Flash Update Ok Voltage' parameter. The default setting is 2.8V and you will not be meeting this requirement with the external resistor divider. If this is the cause, the you can work around this by pressing the CAL_TOGGLE button on the Commands panel. When you click this button, you should see the CAL_EN bit go high on the Registers screen. This will enable you to write to the device. Otherwise, it might be good to unplug and replug your EV2400 and restart bqStudio in case communication is broken. Matt

Hi Chuchen The bq21040 does not have a thermal pad it is a SOT23-6 and page 29 / page 30 are correct. The Text in Layout Guidelines Section 11.1 appear to be reused from a similar device probably the bq24040 but reference to the thermal pad was not removed. This will be noted and updated on the next data sheet revision.

use this as O-scope captures to debug. First step is to confirm a clean WAKE is happening.

Hi Rock I still do not understand what you are asking. If your rate is ok, you will be able to communicate with the gauge without having NACKs(except when clock stretching occurs ) or dropped or missed bits. pls review the i2c spec section of the TRM/data sheet of the device as well as i2c bus specification to understand i2c operation. www.i2c-bus.org/.../ thanks Onyx

Part Number: BQ24650EVM-639 hi, I own a BQ24650EVM, and would like to include it in a project where I'll be using 4 MPT15-150 ( www.flexsolarcells.com/.../14_FlexSolarCells.com_PowerFilm_Solar_MPT15-150_Specification_Sheet.pdf) solar cells in parallel to charge a Venom 35C 3S 5000mAh 11.1V LiPo Battery ( www.venompower.com/.../venom-35c-3s-5000mah-11-1v-lipo-battery-with-universal-plug-system) . On another post, I read that the BQ24650evm doesn't have the cell balancing feature, and as I understand, my battery needs that because it's 3S. I'm no expert on batteries, 1) could you guys guide me in knowing what could happen if I charge my battery without the balancing feature? Regarding my solar cells: since they are 4, connected in parallel, and each one able to provide around 100mA, I'll be able to supply 400mA to my BQ24650EVM. 2) Will that be enough to charge my battery? 3) If I connect a load at VSYS, can the BQ24650evm provide 2A at VSYS ? Thanks a lot for your time!
