Did you find the problem? We had a similar thing. We kept a protection circuit (BQ77PL900) connected to 9 Li-ion batteries in shutdown and discovered all the batteries were completely drained after a couple months on a shelf. No damage to wires, batteries, or the circuit that we could see. Very perplexing.
